Strangely enough, Redding is almost a supporting player in the European concert material, which was shot for television and is clear and sharp (and in black-and-white). Booker T. and company are seen playing "Green Onions," and Sam & Dave perform "Something Is Wrong" and a long jam on "Hold on I'm Comin'," at the end of which they jump down toward the crowd (which is held back by security).
The Dock of the Bay is the first of a number of posthumously released Otis Redding albums, and his seventh studio album. It contains a number of singles and B-sides dating back to 1965 and one of his best known songs, the posthumous hit "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay". In 2003, the album was ranked number 161 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Soul music derives from church music, and no singer took the fervor of the Southern pulpit to the secular stage like Otis Redding. This primer gathers up the best of his songs, both the chastising vamps over which he rants and roars ( Mr. Pitiful, Respect ) and the hymnals; slow-baked ballads that reach feverish intensity the longer Otis testifies ( My Lover’s Prayer, Try a Little Tenderness ). The promise of salvation is always to be found in the healing fire of his voice. The Essentials: Otis Redding Otis Redding.
