Queer is the eighth and final (using its former name) studio album by the British pop group Thompson Twins. Queer was the second album for the Warner Bros. label, following the 1989 album Big Trash. Although the previous album was not a major commercial success, it did spawn the Top 30 hit "Sugar Daddy" in the US. Before the release of Queer, it appeared as if the band was on the verge of commercial rebirth
Thompson Twins were a British pop band that formed in April 1977. Initially a new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity from 1983, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble, to reflect their change in music from new wave to dub-influenced chill-out. They continued as Babble through 1996, at which point the group permanently dissolved.

Thompson Twins' atmospheric and moody 1984 album Into the Gap was their commercial breakthrough in the United States, and remains a classic as far as '80s new wave pop is concerned. Nearly every song on this set differed from the others, with each track taking the listener on a different musical journey. The song that cemented Thompson Twins as a presence on American Top 40 radio was their earnest ballad (and biggest hit) "Hold Me Now," which years later still sounded as fresh and innocent as when it was first released
Up until now, it’s been full speed ahead for the Thompson Twins. Their monster single, Hold Me Now, was harder to shake than your shadow for most of the spring, and its follow-up, Doctor! Doctor! is fast on its heels. By now, the entire world knows The Look: Mod Squad neapolitan, with one black, one blond and one redhead. Not bad, considering their ruffian beginnings.
