Phil Beer, Ashley Hutchings and Chris While with The Albion Band and Julie Matthews. Ridgeriders is a studio album from 1999 and TV series starting in 1994. The TV series featured Nick Knowles and was produced and shown by Meridian Television. One series was broadcast on Thursdays on from 7 June 2001, whilst the final series aired in 2002. The series is about the Southern English trackways (as one description for the series goes, "Nick Knowles takes to the saddle once again for a new four-part series of Ridgeriders, which follows the ancient trackways of the South of England").

Ashley Stephen Hutchings, MBE (born 26 January 1945) is an English bassist, vocalist, songwriter, arranger, band leader, writer and record producer. He was a founding member of three of the most noteworthy English folk-rock bands in the history of the genre: Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. Hutchings has overseen numerous other projects, including records and live theatre, and has collaborated on film and television projects. With Phil Beer and Chris While he provided the sound track for the TV series The Ridge Riders which resulted in an album "Ridgeriders: Songs of the Southern English Landscape" (HTD, 1995), a short tour and another live album Ridgeriders in Concert (Talking Elephant, 1996).

This included what are often considered some of Chris and Julie's most powerful songs and marked the emergence of their distinctive and highly polished sound. Ashley Hutchings: founder member of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Ridgeriders and numerous Albion Band configurations. Ashley Hutchings is the single most important figure in English folk rock.
