Daryl Hall and John Oates, often referred to as Hall & Oates, are an American pop rock duo. Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist; John Oates primarily plays electric guitar and provides backing vocals. The two write most of the songs they perform, separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues.

Private Eyes is the tenth studio album by American pop music duo Hall & Oates. The album was released on September 1, 1981, by RCA Records. The album includes two hits-the title track, "Private Eyes" and "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", as well as the top ten hit "Did It in a Minute". I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" also spent a week at the top of the R&B charts-a rare accomplishment for a white band.

Listen to albums and songs from Hall & Oates. There was a time in the early 1980s when the breezy pop of Hall and Oates was inescapable. Next to The Righteous Brothers, the duo is probably the most famous Blue-Eyed Soul group in the world. They hold the record for most Top-40 hits as a duo with twenty-nine - as many as the number of years the group has been around. Based around Daryl Hall's sweet expressive tenor and John Oates' backup vocals and guitar work, their early hits "She's Gone" and "Sarah Smile" didn't give any real indication of the chart dominance the band would have begin in 1980 when their album Voices started a string of hits that didn't diminish for another five years.

Hall & Oates - a moniker that never appeared on any of the duo’s official albums - spent the 70s stumbling, piling up false starts and experiments alongside hits, which certainly did arrive. Big ones, in fact: She’s Gone, Rich Girl and Sara Smile, all cornerstones of their legacy, a trio of tunes that confirm Daryl Hall and John Oates’ position as one of the great blue-eyed soul groups. Focus finally arrived on X-Static, Daryl Hall & John Oates’ last album of the 1970s.

Be that as if may, War Babies was the first charted album from the duo, reaching in the fall of 1974, a far cry from the blue-eyed soul fashioned by Daryl and John, possessing limited if any dynamic range, reminding me of something recorded inside of a coffee can, or perhaps that Whole Oats can imaged on their first album cover. As to the cover art by airbrush artist Peter Palombi, all of the images represent aspects of the late 1940’s and early 50’s, things Daryl and John would have been more than familiar with: -Backing the entire collage is the CD symbol, representing Civil Defense, referring to the organized non-military effort to prepare Americans for military attack.
