The Odhecaton Ensemble, since its formation in 1998, has won some of the most prestigious record awards. According to critics, in the field of polyphonic performance it has created a new way of interpreting early music, based on declamation of the text. The vocal ensemble takes its name from Harmonice Musices Odhecaton, the first book of printed music, published in Venice by Ottaviano Petrucci in 1501. The group has taken part in some of the major European Festivals and has achieved top record awards: the Cd De Passione (Josquin Desprez) won the Diapason d’Or de l’Année and Choc (Diapason and Le Monde de la Musique); the Cd La Spagna (Heinrich Isaac) was judged Cd of the Year 2003 (Goldberg). Odhecaton’s repertoire includes Amfiparnaso by Orazio Vecchi, featuring the actor Enrico Bonavera and scenography by Lele Luzzati.

Composer: Josquin Desprez. Audio CD (March 26, 2002). The other forty minutes of this recording are devoted to five motets by Josquin, from the collection "Motetti de Passione - B" printed in 1503 in Venice by Ottaviano Petrucci, the 'Gutenberg' of music. Petrucci's Odhecaton was the first publication of music printed from movable type; without Petrucci, it's fair to say that we'd be poorer by dozens of compositions by Josquin and his great contemporaries. Petrucci was not only an artisan but also a marketing genius.
