Fields of the Nephilim are an English gothic rock band formed in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England in 1984. The band's name refers to a Biblical race of giants or angel-human hybrids, known as the Nephilim. Although the band have not received substantial mainstream success, their seminal sound has proved highly influential, especially in the genre of gothic rock.
they were the first to do the goth/rock thing really and made it really dark but interesting. Reply Notify me Helpful. This album fits for the definition what Gothic Rock is about. After all this years (21 years ago) it has stood for me the test of time as i still play this very regurly
BBL 115 CD. Fields Of The Nephilim. Elizium (CD, Album). they were the first to do the goth/rock thing really and made it really dark but interesting. Responder Notifique-me Helpful.
The end result was the band's best all-around album, consisting of four lengthy pieces that showcase their now near-peerless abilities to create involved, textured, driving, and loud pieces of rock. It was still goth as all heck, but like the best bands in any genre, the Nephilim transcended such artificial limitations to create their own sound
Elizium is the third studio album by English gothic rock band Fields of the Nephilim. It was released in September 1990 through record label Beggars Banquet. Using sensational spelling, the album was named after Elysium. The album was produced by Andy Jackson, also known for his work with Pink Floyd. The introduction for the third song of the album, At the Gates of Silent Memory, features spoken lines by Aleister Crowley. The lines are excerpts from Crowley’s poem At Sea, recorded in 1920. Upon its release in late September 1990, Elizium peaked at number 22 in the UK albums chart
One of the album's gloomiest yet surely satisfying tracks, the progressively Gothic 'At the Gates of silent Memory', proves to be a landmark in Fields of the Nephilim's career. This is indeed what early FOTN records excel at, but it isn't the only thing that makes Elizium the Gothic-tinged masterpiece it is. Throughout these 50 minutes of lush atmospherics and beautifully enhanced production, there is plenty of room for each instrument to breathe in its own significant way.
