By the early Seventies, however, he was recording for EMI with the Johann Strauss Orchestra of Vienna, and he re-recorded most of the major Strauss repertoire for them. Then, when digital entered the scene, he re-recorded them yet again. You might say he became a specialist in the field. What we have in this 2007 rerelease from Warner Classics of the original EMI set is a collection of nineteen of Strauss's most famous waltzes from the early digital age of the Eighties

Few conductors are as strongly associated with the Viennese waltz as Willi Boskovsky, who, in a long career of promoting light music through his popular New Year's concerts, endeared himself to millions as a modern-day "Waltz King. Of course, that title originally belonged to Johann Strauss II, the celebrated Viennese composer and innovative bandleader whose waltzes are presented by Boskovsky on this EMI Classics twofer.

Johann Strauss II (Also, Johann Strauss the Younger, Johann Sebastian Strauss) (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899) was an Austrian composer known especially for his waltzes and operettas or light comedies which were very popular with the Viennese public. Son of the composer Johann Strauss I and brother to Josef Strauss and Eduard Strauss, Johann II is the most famous composer of the Strauss family. The best known of his many famous waltzes is On the Beautiful Blue Danube, also known as the "Blue Danube Waltz. Johann Strauss I's influence over the entertainment establishments meant that many of them were wary of offering the younger Strauss a contract for fear of angering the elder Strauss. However, Strauss Jr. was able to persuade the Dommayer's Casino to give him his Vienna debut.

Johann Strauss II (1825–1899) is known as the 'Waltz King'. He was the greatest of all Viennese dance music composers. The young Strauss had started composing and directing his own ensemble of local musicians by the time that he was 20. His father disapproved, knowing well the insecurity of the profession. Strauss senior died in 1849, and has since been celebrated mainly for his Radetzky March
