Notes

Misspress. Label states B3 is "Leaving It Up To You" when it is actually "Coral Moon".
'Leaving It Up To you' was deemed too controversial in referencing the murder of Sharon Tate by Charles Manson, so for this second pressing the outtake 'Coral Moon' was substituted at short notice. Subsequent re-releases reinstated the original track. David Thompson in A Music Lover's Guide to Record Collecting' writes: '“Early into the manufacturing run, the decision was made to replace the song with “Coral Moon”—only for the decision to be reversed immediately thereafter. Only a handful of amended versions appear to have been made; in terms of scarcity, they rank alongside any of the Velvet Underground’s so widely feted rarities.”

Excerpt From: Thompson, Dave. “The Music Lover's Guide to Record Collecting.” Backbeat Books, 2012-08-24. iBooks.

As "Leaving It Up To you" is 4:34, and “Coral Moon” is just 2:19, visually this edition identifiable by track B3 being a thinner band than other pressings

The supporting crew on Cale's final Island album makes for a lineup that could never have happened again - at least, in terms of future results, imagining, among others, Cale, Chris Spedding, Brian Eno, and Phil Collins once more in the same room together seems totally unlikely. Regardless of the oddity, Cale once again led a great ensemble band (Spedding now having fully taken over from Manzanera on guitar) through another set of great, inspiring songs

Helen of Troy is the sixth solo studio album by Welsh musician John Cale, released in November 1975 by Island Records, his last of three albums for the label. During the sessions Cale cut two cover versions, "Willow Weep for Me" and "God Only Knows", which went unreleased. Another unused track, "Mary Lou", was released on the compilation album Guts. The album features a cover of "Pablo Picasso" originally by the Modern Lovers, a song which Cale had produced for the band's debut album.

Helen of Troy Lyrics: Oh, d'you see him standing in the street?, Mmm, he looks so neat, I've seen him before, Running round with all the boys, All that's right, Mmm, big thighs, Greet me, greet m. Helen of Troy Lyrics. Oh, d'you see him standing in the street? Mmm, he looks so neat I've seen him before Running round with all the boys All that's right Mmm, big thighs. Greet me, greet me in the dark Shiny, shiny Joan of Arc When the moonlight starts its flow Cold heart Helen, Queen of gold ? She's got charisma, got thunderstorms Like a baby, never, never been balled She's got mad men, murmuring in the skies She's the cause of her rise. Oh, Helen of Troy Oh, Helen of Troy Oh, Helen of Troy Oh, Helen of Troy

The Island Years is a double CD compilation of John Cale's work during 1974 and 1975. The collection, released in 1996, is composed of the three previously released Cale albums issued by Island Records: Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy. The album also includes some extra tracks, b-sides, and individual tracks from other albums but the Slow Dazzle's last and experimental track "The Jeweller" was shortened to 4:11 (in the original album, the track's duration is 5:07)

Helen Of Troy is a music studio album recording by JOHN CALE (Prog Related/Progressive Rock) released in 1975 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. I do not know how unhappy John Cale may have been in the mid-1970s, but this fascinating album gives the impression that his mind was unbalanced. With his previous release, SLOW DAZZLE, Cale tried to achieve commercial success and failed. On HELEN OF TROY he seems to have thrown all caution to the wind. He simply went and released an album that was sad, angry, depressing and frightening in turn. It was not the kind of thing "pop idols" do.

Helen of Troy" had a compromised birth. John Cale wasn't quite ready to release the album and it came out while he completed a brief tour. This further soured relations with Island his label. In retrospect even if Cale had decided "Helen of Troy" wasn't ready to be launched, it's a strong album and one of Cale's finest of the 1970's
