Observator is the sixth studio album by The Raveonettes, and was released September 11, 2012. Singer Sune Rose Wagner traveled to Venice Beach to gather inspiration for a new album. He ended up going on three-day drug and alcohol bender due to depression he was suffering because of back injury. Songs on the album are inspired by observations of the people he met during this time.

The Raveonettes' fourth album, In and Out of Control, was released 6 October 2009, with "Last Dance" released as the lead-off single. The album was co-written and produced by Thomas Troelsen Raven in the Grave. Raven in the Grave, The Raveonettes fifth album, was released 4 April 2011. The album has produced three singles to date. The duo released a new album, titled Observator, on 11 September 2012

To live like common people I never think I’ll do And so my love I give in to this dark Flowers in the daytime and Lucifer at night This woman said I’m torn between two lives Visions of young lovers holding hands in joyful rides Wishing they would never be apart And so again I hold on to someone I. can’t have Obsessed with all the things that we could do. Take me on a night drive and take me home again A quiet trip where we will meet the end To live like common people I never think I’ll do In defiance of a love not realized.

The Raveonettes have always had a promiscuous relationship with pop history, dredging grungy 1950s juvie rock and 60s girl groups through 70s punk and 90s shoegaze. The piano is quickly discarded and with it any sense of the album as a distinct entity in the Raveonettes' later catalog. They can still set a specific mood with just a few notes, and Wagner and Sharin Foo deliver some of their spryest hooks on "She Owns the Streets" and "The Enemy", but these songs sound suspiciously light, lacking the urgency or stakes of their best material. Especially on the second side, Wagner indulges a particular strategy of repeating lines until they resemble hooks without actually hooking you.

On their 2012 album Observator, the Raveonettes take a step back from the darkly gloomy, intricately produced sound of 2009's Raven in the Grave for something stripped-down and much more intimate
