The Time Has Come is a folk album released in 1971 by Anne Briggs. It is her second album, released by CBS, and, unlike her previous recordings, which featured a capella renditions of traditional songs, the album saw Briggs playing guitar on some of her own songs. The album also includes some instrumental songs on which Briggs plays Bouzouki, allowing for a more playful contrast to some of the heavier compositions, such as "The Time Has Come" and "Wishing Well" that "drip with pensive sadness".

The Time Has Come', Anne's first and last CBS album originally released in 1971, reinforced Anne as one of the most talented writers of traditional English folk music possessing as pure and breathtakingly beautiful a voice as one could imagine.

By the time Anne Briggs came to record this, her second album proper, she was already on her way out of a folk scene she had helped transform during the 1960s, when she had flitted through Albion’s folk clubs and pubs like an untamed nature spirit. The remainder, though, has real strength.

Though never a hit as such, Anne Briggs’ The Time Has Come is regarded as a classic of its kind, and rightly so. When Briggs recorded it in 1971 she was in fact nearing the end of her professional career; one that ultimately produced more rumours than recordings. It was in the early 60s when, as a free-spirited teenager, she first made her mark on a burgeoning London folk scene. It was her singing of traditional folk songs – often unaccompanied – that first made such an impression on people. The American musician Ryley Walker has called it his favourite album of all time. As for Briggs herself, none of this interest has managed to coax her back into the limelight.

Hello there sandman, won't you come in sit yourself down? Hey hey there sandman, I know you've been working downtown. I don't mind you keeping me waiting, Won't be long before the dawn is breaking, C'mon sandman it's very quiet. C'mon sandman you stay the night. We'll wake up in the broad daylight  . Until ‘The Time Has Come’, that is. The second LP released by Anne Briggs in 1971, it’s her solitary release on CBS and further broke with tradition – in every sense – by eschewing her devastating solo style for minimal accompaniment. Minimal is certainly the word. Much of the album is incredibly under-stated. Ride, Ride’ aims towards an American railroad song, yet it’s desolation feels sublimely British, a solitary hymn recorded as the folk legend was beginning to lay down foundations for settled family life.
