First and Last and Always is the debut studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 11 March 1985 through Merciful Release and WEA, with Elektra Records handling the US release. The band was founded in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx in Leeds. Up to 1983, the band produced five singles and two EPs, which were released on the band's own indie label Merciful Release and were distributed independently as well

Light weight vinyl with some production irregularities (some songs seem louder/richer than others) yet it really delivers. The title says it all: this first album is the Sisters at their very best. Reply Notify me Helpful.
The recording of First and Last and Always was worked on at two studios. The first being Strawberry Studios, where the bulk of the album was recorded. The Royal Albert Hall concert was the last nail in the coffin for this incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy, with Wayne Hussey leaving shortly after. Hussey would then end up taking two songs in development from the First and Last and Always sessions, Serpents Kiss, and Wake, along with bassist Craig Adams, and Andrew Eldritch’s penchant for silly hats, to form The Mission. The Mission would later release the music video for Stay With Me, with the undeniably gothic Cabinet of Dr. Caligari backdrop.

First and Last is one of the best releases ever. But the soundquality from this remastered-release is a bad joke. It's not good remastered. Excellent album! Alt F4. im 17 and loved Sisters of mercy since teenage years :) keeping good music alive! Sander Visser.
