First and Last and Always is the debut studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 11 March 1985 through Merciful Release and WEA, with Elektra Records handling the US release. The band was founded in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx in Leeds. Up to 1983, the band produced five singles and two EPs, which were released on the band's own indie label Merciful Release and were distributed independently as well

{:: 'cloud flare always on short message' i18n }} Check us for updates. We'll have things fixed soon. The Sisters of Mercy. Produced by David M. Allen. Album First and Last and Always. First and Last and Always Lyrics. See a body and the dream of the dead days Following lost and blind Living, far from here Tomorrow is hard to find And it seems like twenty-five years of Promises and give me more Scenes of a hand me down in Dresses heard before. First and last and always: 'til the end of time First and last and always: Mine. Maybe it's not so easy Maybe it's a way too long Say, say you'll be by me When the evidence comes along

Light weight vinyl with some production irregularities (some songs seem louder/richer than others) yet it really delivers. The title says it all: this first album is the Sisters at their very best. Reply Notify me Helpful.

The recording of First and Last and Always was worked on at two studios. The first being Strawberry Studios, where the bulk of the album was recorded. Andrew Eldritch of The Sisters of Mercy at the Ritz in NYC Photo by Greg Fasolino. Wayne Hussey of The Sisters of Mercy at the Ritz in NYC Photo by Greg Fasolino. The Sisters of Mercy at the Ritz in NYC Photo by Greg Fasolino. The Royal Albert Hall concert was the last nail in the coffin for this incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy, with Wayne Hussey leaving shortly after. Hussey would then end up taking two songs in development from the First and Last and Always sessions, Serpents Kiss, and Wake, along with bassist Craig Adams, and Andrew Eldritch’s penchant for silly hats, to form The Mission. The Mission would later release the music video for Stay With Me, with the undeniably gothic Cabinet of Dr. Caligari backdrop.

6. First and Last and Always. 10. Some Kind of Stranger. Other productions from The Sisters Of Mercy. The Triple Album Collection. Albums in Gothic Rock. Well-Known Pleasures.

First and Last is one of the best releases ever. But the soundquality from this remastered-release is a bad joke. It's not good remastered. Excellent album! Alt F4. im 17 and loved Sisters of mercy since teenage years :) keeping good music alive! Sander Visser.

My copy of this release is so noisy that I can't wait to offload it. I have already purchased a replacement (different pressing). The sound is thin and the vinyl is clicky throughout, Bad pressing? I contacted Mobile fidelity and I was actually told by a cust serv rep at Mobile Fidelity that the record will sound better and have less clicks after a few plays. WTF.

I have this exact Silver series pressing and my findings differ greatly from previous reviewers. This has to be one of the worst pressings I not only own but have ever listened to. Having owned a lot of the original Merciful releases in the UK I am well aware of the 'budget' production Eldridge and Co. put into their releases so I was hoping for good things with this especially as my Dead Can Dance MFSL release is stunning. The pressing I own is thin and extremely rolled off in the lower mid and bass frequencies. High frequency range is shrill and bright and the worst thing is that both sides sound completely different. One side is a lot worse than the other.I was a high end audio distributor and re-seller when I lived in the UK and had a top flight audio system so I was not playing vinyl back on any budget system. Deck was a fully modified Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck (every NAS modification available), fitted with an Ace arm and Lyra cartridge.Information retrieval from this turntable was stunning and as I previously stated, another MFSL release was truly breathtaking on this turntable. I did play this Sisters MFSL release to a few friends and Sisters fans and they all agreed with me on how bad this pressing sounds.Once my collection arrives in the USA from the UK I will take a close look at the runouts to see if there are any further clues.Maybe a bad day at the office...mastering studio?!
Molotok
Completely agree, It sounds like muffled without any force, less strident than original one, but I can't see any improvement at all
Nikobar
I have been kind of skeptical of the whole Mobile Fidelity Labs cult of record collectors but this release is amazing. I have listened to this record since the 80's and this is the best it has ever sounded.
Xig
The pressing is top notch, the sleeve is thick, and the inner sleeve is rice paper. What more do you want? This album is a great listen. Still holding up throughout the years as high point for goth music. Marian is an all time favorite song.
ACOS
An all time favourite, I've played the original album hundreds of times but this, this is like hearing it on a whole new level, so much more is revealed & a perfect pressing too.
Alsath
This seems essentially to be the same as the "Japanese" WEA CD release - but the sound is so much clearer in the middle to high frequencies. You can hear stuff on this release that is not so apparent on the other masterings. The original UK pressing is the most raw but this one is more musical. You need both.
