With one exception, the songs are shorter and more pointed, harking back to the comparative conciseness of some of the tunes on the band's first two albums, Rattus Norvegicus and No More Heroes, though acidic lyrics still predominate . This fine album is well worth purchasing.
La Folie" is a 1981 song by The Stranglers. The title track from La Folie, it was released as the follow up to "Golden Brown" in April 1982, and peaked at number 47 in the UK Singles Chart. Sung in French by bassist Jean-Jacques Burnel, it was Burnel who convinced his bandmates of the song's potential as a single, despite Hugh Cornwell feeling that "Tramp" was the better choice. The song makes allusions to Japanese necrophiliac murderer and cannibal Issei Sagawa.
Title: À la folie (1994). They are both more talented than Bridget Fonda (who had taken over Parillaud's role in the Hollywood remake of "La Femme Nikita" the same year she did "Single White Female") if less talented than Jennifer Jason Leigh. But the two French actresses playing roles that aren't quite believable might be preferable to Leigh playing a role that's very believable, but then goes completely off the rails with the psycho-rampage ending.
