Even more eclectic than its predecessors, the fourth volume in CMJ magazine's series documenting the roots of alternative rock proves 1982 to be one of the most fertile calendar years of the post-punk era, with college radio broadcasts bursting at the seams with everything from classic pop (Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday Someway") to Motown-inspired post-punk (the Jam's "A. Town Called Malice) to New Romantic fluff (Haircut 100's "Love Plus One") to revivalist ska (the English Beat's "Save It for Later")
