First Light is the fourth album by folk rock duo Richard and Linda Thompson. In 1978 Richard Thompson accepted an invitation from Joe Boyd to play on Julie Covington's eponymous solo debut album. The musicians hired for this album included highly regarded American session players Willie Weeks, Andy Newmark and Neil Larson, who had also been working in the studio with George Harrison. According to Boyd the three Americans were hugely impressed by Thompson's playing and expressed a wish to work with him.

Richard & Linda Thompson. Produced by John Wood & Richard Thompson. Give me what I ask for Give me what I long for First light, first light. I came to you for refuge Don't leave me to the thieves Don't leave me to my own Cure my disease First light, first light First light, first light. Take me through the mountains Lead me from confusion Take me by the hand Through real and through illusion First light, first light First light, first light

Richard Thompson - Live at the BBC is a compilation of audio and video recordings made by Richard Thompson for the BBC. The set consists of three CDs and a DVD. The included material was recorded over a number of years; the earliest tracks date back to 1973, the most recent to 2009. Most of the material was recorded for various TV and radio shows broadcast by the BBC. About 40% of the included material was performed by Richard and Linda Thompson.

However, Richard Thompson's grasp of worldly matters wasn't quite as sure as his perspective on Allah at this juncture, and the opening track, "Restless Highway," is one of the few songs in his catalog that sounds like a throwaway. The rest of the album's material was a good bit better, but one senses that Richard was still getting back on his feet in the studio; Linda's vocals are a lot stronger on this set, and Richard's usually fleet-footed guitar work is unusually subdued.
