Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2 is a jazz album by Sonny Rollins, released in 1957 on Blue Note Records, catalogue BLP 1558. Among other things, it is noted for the appearance of pianists Thelonious Monk and Horace Silver, both playing on the Monk composition "Misterioso". Monk also plays on his composition "Reflections", while Silver handles the piano duties on all the other tracks.

Raw Pages, Albums S. Sonny Rollins, Volume 2 (album).

BN 1558, Sonny Rollins Volume 2, notable for the rare presence of Thelonious Monk and Horace Silver playing together, on the Monk composition Misterioso. Selection: Misterioso. JJ Johnson, trombone; Sonny Rollins, tenor sax; Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Art Blakey, drums. Recorded Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, April 14, 1957, released September 1957. In the light of recent questions about unexpected combinations of Van Gelder stamps, I take this album as interesting case study in identifying Blue Note provenance. Original Blue Note but not the original first pressing. Sadly for me, four small details gives it away.

Johnson, and even Thelonious Monk himself. The tour de force in swing begins with a bang and doesn't let up until the last note has faded away

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). Monk is only on two tracks but his appearance on them elevate this disc to classic status: "Misterioso" and "Reflections". As for Sonny, this is probably his most brilliant ever period from '56-'60. Check it out if you're a Rollins fan.
