Not perhaps the most beautiful voice ever to come along, but that stentorian, ringing sound -which never let him down-was very acceptable in the big roles he carved out for himself, particularly Rhadames and Manrico, two of his signature roles. Lanza began studying to be a professional singer at the age of 16. After appearing at the Hollywood Bowl in 1947, Lanza signed a seven-year film contract with Louis B.
