The album attempts to articulate a mental state of simultaneity, in which equilibrium is fleeting, fragile, and its scarcity is embraced. Opposite states coincide, contrast and reflect, creating moments of uncertainty and insecurity. The sounds collected here are attempts to compose on these uncertain grounds, and to reflect the anxiety released in all these sources’ meeting and interaction. The focus on process and uncertainty is apparent in the album’s phrasing, re-articulation and cycles of repetition and deviation.
As Blessed Initiative, experimental producer and sound artist Yair Elazar Glotman explores some deeply uncomfortable and unsettling spaces. But there is a strange and beautiful majesty to his work. Likewise, on his 2015 album Études, released under his own name, Glotman basically threw his classical acoustic bass training out the window in favor of hacking the strings with the bow to make solemn dark ambient drones. And yet Études has a certain grace of form that even an untrained ear can readily trace back to classical music. With the debut of his new project Blessed Initiative, he ventures into even more forbidding territory.

According to the accompanying information, the album is the result of a long and complex sound design process that variously involved manipulating tape recordings, recording his own foley style sound effects, and putting the whole thing together with the aid of a customized workstation

Blessed Initiative blends insectoid sound design an. .Yair Elazar Glotman, the Berlin producer best know for his work as Ketev and collaborations with Emptyset’s James Ginzburg, has announced a new album under the moniker Blessed Initiative for Ginzburg’s Subtext Recordings. Glotman designed the self-titled album from a complex process built around a KYMA sound design workstation, foley recordings and manipulated tape. The result is a tense record contrasted between shivering, insectoid runs of sound and passages of silvery ambience. For fans of Subtext’s many great releases this year including LPs by Fis and Paul Jebanasam (or even Porter’s own.
