Balladyna is an album by Polish jazz trumpeter and composer Tomasz Stańko recorded in 1975 and released on the ECM label. Tomasz Stańko: trumpet. Tomasz Szukalski: tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone. Edward Vesala: drums.
Those who are familiar with the music of Kenny Wheeler will hear an immediate connection, as Stanko and this ensemble employ techniques of free-floating moods and lightly soaring sounds, with Holland's anchoring bass prodding the slight rhythms forward. The beauty of this concept is in how the quartet plays from an inward direction, with few direct jazz references save improvisation.

Tomasz Stańko (Rzeszów, Poland, 11 July 1942 - 29 July 2018) was a Polish jazz trumpeter and composer. Often recording for ECM Records, Stańko is strongly associated with free jazz and the avant-garde. Stańko was born in Rzeszów, Poland, on 11th July 1942. He formed the quartet Jazz Darings in 1962 with Adam Makowicz (later replaced by Janusz Muniak); this was one of the first European groups to be influenced by Ornette Coleman.
