The Manley brand has been synonymous with no-compromise, outboard recording equipment since its beginnings in the late ‘80s in the old Vacuum Tube Logic of America building. When renowned brazilian drum-n-bass artist Amon Tobin set out to mix Foley Room - an album composed from entirely found sound and original samples - he relied heavily on the Massivo’s natural sound to blend all the samples together.
I've owned the Massive Passive and we sold it. It did its job well, but overall, felt vanilla. meaning, you don't have to work hard to get great results. It also imparts a fantastic attitude, sometimes we run something though it without EQ'ing because it still adds an amazing depth. I couldn't be happier with that EQ for both 2-buss duties, tracking or parts, from synth to bass and vocals. JXL supposedly does much of his EQ mostly with a Massive Passive. Hihats do sound different with it, it's not always the best solution for this. I love the fact you can apply extreme boosts, cuts without it sounding strange.
