Chant is an album of Gregorian chant, performed by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain. The music did not sell significantly until it was re-released by Angel in 1994 when it was strongly marketed as an antidote to the stress of modern life. Chant is the best-selling album of Gregorian chant ever released.
If this is your motivation, the Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos will not disappoint. Third, it provides an otherworldly sound world that you want to escape to, hovering in the heavens with floating bricks. Not sure many will be turned on by this sub-genre for its musical merits alone, but there are 9 billion people in this world, and certainly at least some will find their base in the ethereal landscape of the monks. Overall, I think this will appeal to many types. If you are exploring classical music then this is definitely worth having. Honestly though, most won't need more than one album of chant in their library. Two other Chant albums that look intriguing (but I have not listened to them myself) are Chant- Music for the Soul by the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz and Benedicta: Marian Chant from Norcia. 8 people found this helpful.

I love Gregorian chan. eally, I just prefer it in smaller doses. When this album came out I couldn't wait to own a copy, but after about 1-2 listens I put it away. Back in the 90's Enigma had just come out with their own version of dance floor chant intertwined with overt sexuality and the combination was amazingly powerful. Subsequently Chant was able to crossover into the mainstream leading to a flurry of sequels–all of which soun. ell, the same. Info: Composer: Anonymous Conductor: Ismael Fernandez Cuesta, Francisco Lara Orchestra/Ensemble: Santo Domingo De Silos Benedictine Choir. Gregorian chanting has been part of Catholicism since the early ninth century, and continues to be embraced even today. The Monasterio de Santo Domingo de Silos, located in northwestern Spain is the monastery where this enriching collection of Gregorian chants was recorded.
