The Concretes is the debut studio album by Swedish indie pop band The Concretes. It was first released in Sweden on May 2, 2003 by Licking Fingers, and was released internationally in 2004. All lyrics written by Victoria Bergsman; all music composed by The Concretes.

The Concretes began as a three member band with Victoria Bergsman, Maria Eriksson, and Lisa Milsberg, in 1995 in Stockholm. Since then they have picked up members, growing into an eight piece band. They also have a number of "Honorary Concretes" who play on their records.

Because of the somewhat dodgy distribution of the singles and EPs that came after Boy, You Better Run Now, The Concretes might sound like even more of a departure from the band's early work to stateside Concretes fans. The spare, spry indie pop of the group's first releases has been replaced by a sugar-coma maximalism, overflowing with horns, strings, harps, and mandolins

But even though this album lacks some of the unpredictable energy of the band's early work, there might be more cause for concern if the Concretes still sounded exactly the same as they did four years ago. For the most part, though, the band has simply traded one kind of beauty for another, and even if The Concretes is slightly disappointing in some aspects, it also has more than enough charms in its own right.

The Concretes : The Concretes. The future of rock, Kurt Cobain once declared, belongs to women. Voice of a generation he may well have been, but when it came to crystal balls he couldn’t work the buggers for toffee. But this isn’t wistful indie-pop revelling in its own tweeness – The Concretes are well acquainted with rock’n’roll’s dark past (Lisa Milberg’s opiated drum-thud on ‘Say Something New’ echoes the Velvets) as well as its starry-eyed innocence (‘Chico’ is currently without competitors in the Best Song About A Talking Cat category at next.

The Concretes is the debut self-titled album by the Swedish band The Concretes, first released in Sweden in 2003, and released internationally in 2004. The album charted at on the UK Album Chart. Say Something New" – 3:48. Their second album, In Colour, was released in 2006. It was followed shortly after by the departure of lead singer Victoria Bergsman, who has since moved on to her solo project, Taken By Trees. Lisa Milberg now provides lead vocals for the band, both on stage and on the band's third album Hey Trouble, released early 2007. In 2007, The Concretes recorded a cover version of Take That's "Back for Good" for Engine Room Recordings' compilation album Guilt by Association, released September 2007.

Additional recordings at Studio Gröndahl, Stockholm, Dubious, Stockholm and UAE Magnetophone, Stockholm.
