The Jimi Hendrix Experience first seminal album and possibly his best. Also the first LP I bought as a teenager which may prejudice my judgement. The project supervisor for the 1993 series of Hendrix remasters was Alan Douglas, a man with a something of a history of making questionable decisions regarding the Hendrix legacy. He was of the opinion that to appear modern for "the kids" of the 1990's Hendrix required an image update. which in actuality didn't look particularly modern anyway
Are You Experienced?" is the title song for the Jimi Hendrix Experience 1967 debut album. It has been described as one of Jimi Hendrix's most original compositions on the album by music writer and biographer Keith Shadwick. The song is largely based on one chord and has a drone-like quality reminiscent of Indian classical music. It features recorded guitar and drum parts that are played backwards and a repeating piano chord, but no bass.

Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced". on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums. When a musician writes a piece of music, they keep two things in perspective- sound, and silence. What you do NOT play is just as, if not, more important than what you do play. Jimi Hendrix, of all rock guitar players, was a musician who understood that philosophy, and used it to his full advantage. Sure, he was an amazing soloist, who could hold his own weight at fast tempos, but what made Jimi unique is that he understood that 2 notes could do as much as 10 notes in the context of a song
The Jimi Hendrix Experience had only been together for a few weeks before recording. On October 23rd, 1966, Hendrix, Redding and Mitchell entered London’s De Lane Lea studios to record a soulful cover of Billy Roberts’ folk-rock standard Hey Joe with manager Chas Chandler producing. Released seven weeks later as a single, the recording – which would be included on the . version of Are You Experienced – climbed all the way to Number Six on the . charts, establishing Hendrix as a rising star in Britain and Europe. 10. Rolling Stone gave the album a less-than-favorable write-up. Are You Experienced had already been out for two and a half months by the time the debut issue of Rolling Stone hit the streets. But since Hendrix’s success was one of the year’s biggest musical stories, Jon Landau offered his take on the album for the issue. His impressions were decidedly mixed.
