Tracy Chapman is the self-titled debut album by singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, released on April 5, 1988, by Elektra Records. The album was recorded at the Powertrax studio in Hollywood, California. In 1987, Chapman was discovered by fellow Tufts University student Brian Koppelman. He offered to show her work to his father, who owned a successful publishing company; however, she did not consider the offer to be serious.

Crossroads is folk/R&B singer Tracy Chapman’s sophomore album, and followup to her 6x platinum self titled debut. Although she chose not to diversify her signature acoustic sound and layout, it was her first time working as a producer. She also collaborated with longtime associate David Kershenbaum for production. The lead promotional single for the album, Crossroads, debuted at n. on the Billboard Modern Rock charts and achieved heavy acclaim. The album itself charted at 26 on the Billboard 200 and stayed there for 7 weeks

Tracy Chapman Lyrics. All you folks think you own my life But you never made any sacrifice Demons they are on my trail I'm standing at the crossroads of the hell I look to the left I look to the right There're hands that grab me on every side. All you folks think I got my price At which I'll sell all that is mine You think money rules when all else fails Go sell your soul and keep your shell I'm trying to protect what I keep inside All the reasons why I live my life.

THANKS TO: Charles Koppelman, Bob Krasnow, the staff at Elektra Records, SBK, Lookout Management and all who helped make this album possible. Special thanks to Neil Young, Elliot Roberts, Frank Gironda, Ron Goodman, Ginger and all the musicians who played on the album. Freedom Now" is dedicated to Nelson Mandela.
