Lörrach, Paris 1966 is a live album by saxophonist and composer Albert Ayler, recorded in Europe in 1966 and first released on the Swiss hat MUSICS label in 1982. The album was rereleased on CD in 2002 with additional recordings from the Paris concert. The band was in fantastic shape and performed beyond expectation on both evenings.

You can change the names of the albums and pretty little pictures on assorted Labels but the heirs to his musical estate can continue this "money grab" but poor old Albert.

Lorrach/Paris" is a collection of two live shows from November 1966- five tracks from the Lorrach, Germany, and three from Paris, France. The two shows find Ayler's band, featuring himself on tenor sax, his brother Don on trumpet, violinist Michel Sampson, bassist William Folwell (in his first recorded work with Ayler) and drummer Beaver Harris (who was brought to Europe when Sunny Murray wouldn't go) in full flight, well recorded, and performing admirably. There are even some nice drum solos on this album, something I don't recall on the other 1966-67 releases. I can't really say much more about this; the music speaks for itself. This is a must-have disc for Ayler fans, and as good a place as any for an introduction.

In 1966 Ayler was signed to Impulse Records at the urging of Coltrane, the label's star attraction at that time. But even on Impulse, Ayler's radically different music never found a sizable audience. Ayler's first set for Impulse was recorded a few weeks before Christmas in 1966, entitled Albert Ayler in Greenwich Village. Ayler first sang on a recording in a version of "Ghosts" performed in Paris in 1966, in which his vocal style was similar to that of his saxophone, with an eerie disregard for pitch. Ayler continued to experiment with vocals for the rest of his career

Poor old Albert as once again it is the same old songs over and over and over again....I think he released 8 songs in his whole life just different album covers and a few different concerts (venues)....
Jum
ya, and so great to hear how he makes those "8 songs" come blossom again and again.
