Bassist Aladar Pege is not particularly well known outside of Europe, but he leads two effective duo sessions on this compilation of two previously issued LPs. The six tracks with Rudi Wilfer (a pianist also deserving of greater attention) feature three originals by each man. Pege's driving post-bop "Printer's Devil" is an excellent opener, while his lush ballad "Emle Kazan" gives him a chance to alternate between playing arco and pizzicato.

Pege Aladár:Humoreszk. Aladár Pege Double Bass Solo. Eugen Ciceu ‎– Cicero Jazz (full album). Rudi Wilfer Trio - For Us 1979 (Album Download) Jazz. VARNUS & SZAKCSI: SUNSET MIRROR IMPROVISATION. Jozsef Horvath Barcza - Upright Bass Solo.

A brilliant virtuoso, Aladár Pege was one of the top jazz musicians to emerge from Hungary. He did not start playing bass until he was 15, but Pege developed quickly. After studying classical music at Bela Bartok Musical Training College, he freelanced in jazz groups, often leading his own band. Pege attended the Franz Liszt Academy (where he taught after graduating in 1969) and was also a studio musician. Pege lived in Berlin from 1975-1978 before returning to Hungary's studios.

Aladár Pege (8 October 1939 – 23 September 2006) was a jazz musician from Hungary. He was well known for his work and was dubbed "the Paganini of double bass". He was chosen as best soloist of Europe in 1970, performed at Carnegie Hall and worked with Herbie Hancock. This was quite rare during the communist era, when Hungarian (and other Eastern block countries') artists were seriously restricted in foreign travel. He spent his last decades teaching at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
