Pretzel Logic" is a song written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen that was released as a single by Steely Dan from their album Pretzel Logic, originally released in 1974 by ABC Records. It reached number 57 in the Billboard charts. Fagen has stated that the lyrics, including anachronistic references to Napoleon and minstrel shows, are about time travel.

Pretzel Logic, the third Steely Dan, is another great record. I cannot describe how delighted I was when I got the LP back home to my apartment, threw it onto the turntable and immediately realized that Fagen and Becker had done it again. The ten songs are concise (the whole LP is just 34 minutes long) yet complex lyrically and musically. This record is unmistakably a studio effort. Although the musicians are first rate, I do miss the band "feel"

Pretzel Logic is the third studio album by the American rock band Steely Dan, released on February 20, 1974 by ABC Records. It was written by principal band members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Pretzel Logic has shorter songs and fewer instrumental jams than the group's 1973 album Countdown to Ecstasy. Steely Dan considered it their attempt at complete musical statements within the three-minute pop-song format. The album's music is characterized by harmonies, counter-melodies, and bop phrasing. It also relies often on straightforward pop influences. The syncopated piano.

Steely Dan is the most improbable hit-singles band to emerge in ages. On its three albums, the group has developed an impressionistic approach to rock & roll that all but abandons many musical conventions and literal lyrics for an unpredictable, free-roving style.

Listen to Steely Dan's 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number'. Pretzel Logic’s lead-off track, "Rikki Don’t Lose That Number," would storm to No. 4 - the biggest pop hit of Steely Dan’s career, while popular album cuts like "Barrytown," "Any Major Dude Will Tell You" and the title track helped to hone and define the trademark Steely Dan sound - as sweetly infectious as it was deceptively intricate, dark. and witty - for the remainder of the decade. Rock critics didn’t hesitate to lavish praise upon Pretzel Logic with almost unfailing enthusiasm.
