Nursery Cryme is the third studio album from the English rock band Genesis, released in November 1971 on Charisma Records. It is their first to feature drummer, vocalist Phil Collins and guitarist Steve Hackett. The album received a mixed response from critics and was not initially a commercial success; it did not enter the UK chart until 1974, when it reached its peak at No. 39. However, the album was successful in Continental Europe, particularly Italy

Nursery Cryme is a music studio album recording by GENESIS (Symphonic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1971 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Nursery Cryme Reissued · Remastered Wea Int'L 1990.

Clearly this was a large transformation for such a young band, and although Trespass wasn’t a bad album it suffered from overly elaborate arrangements and embryonic compositions. Discarding the flak Genesis underwent a few major line-up changes, not least the introduction of Phil Collins on drums, and classic-era Genesis was born. With new personnel the group would go on to take the still infant progressive rock scene to new heights, and they marked this new epoch with their first glorious exemplar, Nursery Cryme.

By 1971 Genesis had all the pieces in place. Following the devastating departure of guitar player Anthony Philips and drummer John Mayhew they’d finally found musicians who had the chops to keep up with these posh boys’ grandiose visions. Though (with singer Peter Gabriel especially) their roots lay in white r’n’b it was no longer simply good enough to sing about the simple joys of being young. Their previous album, Trespass, had been full of post-apocalyptic allegory (a subject they’d return to) and anti-violence diatribe
