Both Sides of the Sky is a compilation album by Jimi Hendrix, released by Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix on March 9, 2018. The album was the third release in a trilogy of posthumously released "archival recordings" compilation albums highlighted as intended for a follow-up to Electric Ladyland (1968), starting with Valleys of Neptune (2010), and preceded directly by People, Hell and Angels (2013). All songs recorded at Record Plant Studios, except for "Sweet Angel" recorded at Olympic Studios.
The album will be released on multiple formats including CD, digital, and as a numbered 180 gram audiophile vinyl 2LP. Both Sides of the Sky is the third volume in a trilogy of albums intended to present the best and most significant unissued studio recordings remaining in the music legend’s archive . Another of the album’s unique band creations sees Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter on guitar, backed by Billy Cox and drummer Dallas Taylor of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Nearly 50 years after his death, he’s back with a bluesy experience. Jimi Hendrix, still hot, relevant and long dead, resurfaced March 9 with the highly anticipated Both Sides of the Sky, a studio album of 13 tracks - 10 previously unreleased.
A new Jimi Hendrix album will contain 10 previously unheard tracks when it arrives on March 9. Both Sides of the Sky is the final part of a trilogy that includes 2010’s Valleys of Neptune and 2013’s People, Hell and Angels. The album was once again brought to completion by Eddie Kramer, who worked on every Hendrix recording during the guitarist’s life and continues to maintain his archive. The 13-track LP focuses on the period between January 1968 and February 1970, with much of the material featuring the trio of Hendrix, bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles. that became Band of Gypsys
Jimi really tried to be whittling down songs, working hard to refine things. There was a constant evolution of the content. The problem with this album is that the songs were unfinished and there is a reason why they weren't released at any point in the last 47 years, which is that they aren't as good as the four incredible LPs that Hendrix's released in his lifetime.
