For the Dream Syndicate album, see Medicine Show (album). A reenactment of a medicine show in Ringwood, Illinois. Medicine shows were touring acts (traveling by truck, horse, or wagon teams) that peddled "miracle cure" patent medicines and other products between various entertainments. They developed from European mountebank shows and were common in the United States in the nineteenth century, especially in the Old West (though some continued until World War II). They usually promoted "miracle elixirs" (sometimes referred to as snake oil), which, it was claimed, had the.

1984's Medicine Show is the second record from Steve Wynn & C. the follow up to their classic debut The Days Of Wine And Roses. This album is a little less Velvet Underground and Television, and a little more Neil Young and CCR, but still features Wynn's distinctive songwriting and plenty of guitar workouts. Water's deluxe reissue includes the This Is Not The New Dream Syndicate Album Live! EP as bonus tracks and notes by Steve Wynn, Peter Buck (REM), and David Fricke (Rolling Stone), along with vintage photos. A classic album back in print on CD!

Medicine Show (album). Studio album by The Dream Syndicate. The Dream Syndicate left Slash Records, a small label that released the band's first album The Days of Wine and Roses (1982), and signed with the A&M label. Medicine Show was produced by Sandy Pearlman; Pearlman previously worked with Blue Öyster Cult and The Clash. All songs written by Steve Wynn except where noted).

The Dream Syndicate, in particular, had become something of a buzz-band for delivering an independent album called The Days of Wine and Roses, which earned them comparisons to the Velvet Underground. Major labels soon beckoned and, eventually, the Dream Syndicate signed on with A&M Records. This reissue of Medicine Show is appended with a 1984 live EP called This Is Not the New Dream Syndicate Album. Live!, which marks the first time that the five-song mini-album has been issued in complete form on CD. Meant to be a stop-gap between Medicine Show and the next album for A&M that never materialized, the EP showcases the band playing a gig in Chicago for a strangely receptive audience, given the rough ride Medicine Show received. "Last time we were here, we had stuff thrown at us. This is much nicer," quips Wynn at one point during the proceedings.

The Dream Syndicate - The Medicine Show Songtext. I've got a Page One story buried in my yard I've got a troubled mind I'm going down to the medicine show. If I've got to choose between doing trouble And doing time I'm going down to the medicine show. I've got a one way ticket on the 8: 06 To the outskirts of town I'm going down to the medicine show. And I'll say, "hey conductor Now dontcha stop until you hear that gypsy sound I'm going down to the medicine show. But I know that it's hard to be a decent man.
