D∆WN’s new album, Redemption, comes out Nov. 18. Rob Daly/Courtesy of the artist. There was no room to move, yet the room moved. We found open spaces to jump and gyrate, enraptured not only by the pulsing future-club music, but also by its maker. Just before an ambitious run of gigs during SXSW, Dawn Richard - who records under the name D∆WN - was our body-music guru in a small Washington, . D∆WN kicked off the year with the excellent BlackHeart, and she’s already working on the follow-up: The Red Era continues the trilogy that began with 2013’s GoldenHeart and continued with BlackHeart. Lead single ‘Dance’ lives up to its title; the club-ready beat was provided by producers Noisecastle III and Swagg R’Celious and the song was co-written by Ester Dean. I wanted to create a vibrant atmosphere, Richard says in a statement. The Red Era is about moving on, redeeming yourself, and finding redemption

I spent more time on this album than any other era because I wanted it to be special, said D∆WN. I wanted to speak on self discovery

From show stoppin' as part of girl group Danity Kane (and then as part of Diddy Dirty Money) to show running as a solo act, D∆WN aka Dawn Richard finally found her niche within experimental electronica. Following up on her Infrared EP and a mythological fashion film, Richard has announced that her new album, Redemption, will be released next month on November 18 via Local Action, Our Dawn Entertainment. According to an interview with Billboard, she says her hometown of New Orleans plays a major part in the album, notably in its use of live instrumentation.
