Too Low for Zero (stylized as 2 4 0), released in 1983, is the seventeenth studio album release by Elton John. The album marked a comeback for John, whose previous four albums had failed to yield many enduring international hit singles, and had disappointing sales compared to his string of hit records released during the first half of the 1970s. It is his best selling album of the 1980s, earning Platinum certification by both the RIAA and the British Phonographic Industry

Elton John began inching back into the mainstream with Jump Up, an uneven but strong record highlighted by "Empty Garden. Its success set the stage for Too Low for Zero, a full-fledged reunion with his best collaborator, Bernie Taupin, and his classic touring band. Happily, this is a reunion that works like gangbusters, capturing everybody at a near-peak of their form. That means there aren't just hit singles, but there are album tracks, like the opener, "Cold as Christmas (In the Middle of the Year)," that strongly (and favorably) recall Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Elton’s 17th studio album features one of his most famous songs, I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, which hit on the Adult Contemporary chart and on the Hot 100. This followed two other Top 25 singles, I'm Still Standing and Kiss The Bride . old As Christmas (In The Middle Of The Year)4:22. m Still Standing3:03. Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues4:45.
