For his self-titled album, see Gerry Rafferty (album). Rafferty performing at Dublin's National Stadium on 6 September 1980. Background information In 1980, Rafferty and Murphy produced a record for Richard and Linda Thompson; though never released, it eventually evolved into their album Shoot Out the Lights. The 1982 album Sleepwalking saw Rafferty taking a very different approach to his work.

He might not have made that much, but it's clear from the casual, relaxed vibe of 1988's North & South that Rafferty is a man with little to prove and no concern as to whether his sound is particularly commercially viable. As a result, North & South sounds remarkably like Mark Knopfler's post-"Money for Nothing" records. The title track and the slide guitar-enhanced "Hearts Run Dry" are particularly Dire Straits-like.

North And South Lyrics. I was born a poor man's son, and followin' tradition When I came of age I hit the road, and followed blind ambition I served my time and payed my dues, now I'm sittin' pretty Sleeping in a feather bed high above this city.

North and South (album). For other uses, see North and South. North and South is the sixth studio album by Gerry Rafferty. It was Rafferty's first studio album in six years and reunited him with producer Hugh Murphy. The album was released as an LP and CD in 1988. One of the singles was "Shipyard Town", also released on several compilation albums

No one other than Gerry Rafferty can put the human condition into words with such grace, clarity and sympathy! 7 years назад. Incredible! Typical for GR. I wanna be in Alba listening to GR music while savoring a right good dram. I can't believe that I only discovered this album (North and South) in 2011. I love it, each song beautifully crafted. My favourite album currently. Fantastic tune and great production. RIP Gerry and thanks so much for all your amazing music.
