Sonic-chaos mongers Veil of Maya conjure up even more brutal metalcore tricks on their sixth album, False Idol. Although the earthshaking "Pool Spray" and the string-dusted "Manichee" offer up bursts of hypnotically clean vocals, the majority of the record hews toward death-infused sludge and ripping displays of technical prowess. Digital zaps give way to dizzying blast beats on "Follow Me," while twisted electronics devolve into meticulous fret workouts on "Whistleblower," and frayed metal thrashing dominates "Overthrow
Of course, Veil of Maya finds that idea completely irrelevant. Picking up former Arms of Empire vocalist Lukas Magyar for 2015’s Matriarch, their foray into a slightly more streamlined sound resulted in one of their most focused releases yet, for better or for worse. And False Idol continues in the same vein, but tightens the loose ends from their previous outing and hits hard, resulting in a listen that showcases a band more than content with their sound than ever. What shortcomings present themselves on False Idol are quickly forgotten by the time they pass by due to the nature of the album just being heavy fun. The more streamlined approach to songwriting is a welcome addition, allowing tracks to sound far more complete without overstaying their welcome.
False Idol is the sixth studio album by Veil of Maya, released on October 20, 2017 through Sumerian Records. The instrumental parts of the album were produced by Max Schad, while vocal parts were produced by Brandon Paddock.
The Sumerian giants Veil of Maya have come roaring through the gates with their sixth album, False Idol. Since their formation in Chicago in 2004, Veil of Maya have been bending genres and turning heads with their burgeoning but melodic sound
Good news for metal fans, as Veil Of Maya have announced their new album will be titled False Idol. It's the group's sixth record as a band, and comes out Oc. 0 via Sumerian Records. As part of the announcement, the group has also released a new video for single "Overthrow" (seen above).
