Dawn of Possession is the debut album by Immolation. It was released in July 19, 1991; it was their first and only album released on Roadrunner Records. All songs written by Immolation. Ross Dolan - vocals, bass. Robert Vigna - guitar. Tom Wilkinson - guitar. Craig Smilowski - drums. Andreas Marschall - cover art. Carole Segal - photography.

Basically, on this album Immolation play a rather unorthodox style of death metal that really didn’t have all that many contemporaries in the death metal field of the early 90’s. The early efforts of Morbid Angel are a somewhat close touchstone to the style of songwriting exhibited on here. When all is said and done, despite a few minor flaws, Dawn of Possession is an excellent album for any death metal fan to own in their collection. It’s what technical death metal should aspire to be: with the more complex and technical elements intelligently integrated into the songwriting without succumbing to mindless virtuosity, like a lot of other death metal bands in the technical field.

An early supporter of this style was New York's Immolation, whose debut release, Dawn of Possession, was issued in 1991 via Roadrunner (back when the label was not yet the global powerhouse it is today). Out of print for several years, 2006 saw the ten-track album reissued via the Metal Mind Productions label.
