Overall, Bobby Charles sounds enough like The Band to interest fans (especially those who've warn out their Band records and are looking for something similar in sound and quality), but doesn't sound so much like The Band that its derivative or copycat. After all, Charles was a great songwriter before The Band was writing their own material, and The Band was the best backing band in North America before Charles was making his own records. Really, though, Bobby Charles writes and performs an excellent set with top-notch tunes and his own distinct style. Small Town Talk" is full of suburban aggravation and melodic tension, while "Save Me Jesus" is simply a damn good protest song. Grow Too Old" is a rough, bluesy shuffle, and "I Must Be In A Good Place Now" is quietly gorgeous.

Robert Charles Guidry (February 21, 1938 – January 14, 2010), known as Bobby Charles, was an American singer-songwriter. An ethnic Cajun, Charles was born in Abbeville, Louisiana, and grew up listening to Cajun music and the country and western music of Hank Williams. At the age of 15, he heard a performance by Fats Domino, an event that "changed my life forever," he recalled.
Bobby Charles pioneered the musical genre known as ‘swamp rock’ – he wrote the early rock n roll classic See You Later, Alligator (best known via the version by Bill Haley & the Comets). Another early gem penned by Bobby Charles was Walking to New Orleans as recorded by Fats Domino. He also appeared at the legendary Last Waltz concert in 1976 – in which he performed Down South in New Orleans accompanied by The Band and Dr. John.
PAffiliateID 100l3VM. This set is a fitting tribute to one of the unsung heroes of New Orleans music. And speaking of that, Bobby Charles also wrote Fats Domino's classic Walkin' To New Orleans. Bobby Charles' recent death marked the passing of a New Orleans legend! Includes his original hit recordings of See You Later, Alligator and Don't You Know I Love You (You Know I Love You) - a song featured in 'Forrest Gump'.
