Satan Is Real is a gospel album by American country music duo The Louvin Brothers, released in 1959. Producer Ken Nelson set up recording sessions in August 1958 to record enough tracks for two albums. The first was to become Country Love Ballads, the second the gospel music for Satan is Real. Over 20 songs were recorded in a seven-day span. The 3-minute title-track, with only two sung choruses, is largely taken up by a personal narrative monologue describing the dangers of Satan.

It wouldn't be hard for an album like Tragic Songs of Life to seem either morbid or unintentionally comical, but the genius of the Louvin Brothers is that this music never makes a wrong step; instead, these are 12 stories of the inevitable tragedies that touch every life, and there's a compassion in their performances that's beautiful and profoundly moving. Quite simply, this is a landmark of traditional country music that remains powerful more than fifty years after it was recorded.

Don’t you tell a single soul What I’m going to say . Jolly old Saint Nicholas, Lean your ear this way! Don’t you tell a single soul What I’m going to say; Christmas Eve is coming soon; Now, you dear old man, Whisper what you’ll bring to me; Tell me if you can. When the clock is striking twelve, When I’m fast asleep, Down the chimney broad and black, With your pack you’ll creep; All the stockings you will find Hanging in a row; Mine will be the shortest one, You’ll be sure to know. Johnny wants a pair of skates; Susy wants a dolly; Nellie wants a story book; She thinks dolls are folly; As for me, my little brain Isn’t very bright; Choose for me,.

Listen to albums and songs from The Louvin Brothers. Born and raised in Alabama's Appalachian Mountains, Charlie and Ira Louvin were a Close Harmony Brother Act inspired by many of the family-strung Country Folk bands of the 1930s. The Louvins influenced a number of country and Cosmic American Music artists including Emmylou Harris and The Byrds whose cover of the Brothers' "The Christian Life" is now a country cult staple. Infamous for the artwork on the cover of their "Satan Is Real" album (featuring Charlie and Ira Louvin in a burning hell running from a hovering cardboard cutout of the devil), the Louvin Brothers sang in harmony like no other Brother Act. Their close-harmonies often birthed a ghostly third harmonic overtone that sounded almost as eerie as their spooky murder ballads.

Louvin Brothers, The - Satan Is Real - Handpicked Songs 2-CD CD 2. 01. Almost Persuaded. We picked up the story in our 1952 volume when the brothers wrote a hit, Are You Teasing Me, for Carl Smith. The success of Are You Teasing Me also made them intent on getting out of Memphis and up to Nashville to work on the Grand Ole Opry. At least Nelson was in favour of the latter.
