Born in Morogoro (Tanzania), Ras Nas aka Nasibu Mwanukuzi, is a musician and poet from Tanzania who blends African music and reggae with a dash of poetry. In 1997 he produced Ras Nas début CD Cut You Loose, (Kongoi Productions). RNCD9701), working together with Charles Mena from Nicaragua, Chuck Frazier, a musician from Texas and Ishamel de Leon from Trinidad.
a Nasibu Mwanukuzi, is a poet-musician from Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania that blends reggae and african music with a dash of poetry. Above all, Ras Nas' music is original. 2007 finds Ras Nas ready poised to release his follow up CD "Dar-es-Salaam". On this CD, Ras Nas has collaborated with 24 musicians from nine different countries. Dar-es-Salaam", containing nine songs with lyrics in both English and Kiswahili,is expected to hit the market in November.
Cut Loose is the 1983 debut solo album by Paul Rodgers (of Free and Bad Company fame). Unlike his other work, Paul Rodgers plays all the instruments on this album. It was recorded at his house in Kingstone. The song "Live In Peace" was re-recorded by his next band The Firm on their second album Mean Business

The long awaited CD Double Focus by the Tanzanian poet and musician Ras Nas aka Nasibu Mwanukuzi is set for release in Oslo, Norway, in November this year. The CD contains music and spoken word. Recorded at Urban Sound studio in Oslo by the legendary recording engineer Jock Loveband, Double Focus brings together musicians from Mali, South Africa, Norway, Bangladesh and Brazil. The albums, both of which have been highly acclaimed by music critics, are Cut You Loose and Dar-es-Salaam. Nasibu’s biggest influence came from the poets Kwesi Brew, Keorapetse William Kgositsile and Langston Hughes, all three masters in the art of creating paintings in the form of words.

Recently, Ras Nas was featured on BBC World Service, The Beat program. The weekly program, reaching millions of listeners worldwide, is presented by Mark Coles. Other artists on the program were Wyclef Jean and Zoe Rahman. Ras Nas aka Nasibu started writing African poetry at the age of 17 and experimented with various forms of African chanting and African drumming. Ras Nas tracks can be also be found in other music compilations, the most notable being AMUN Tropical Acts vo., a compilation by African musicians living in Norway and RAW 2000 by Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide.
