Most of the songs, apart from a few heavily played album tracks ("Song for Jeffrey," et. and a pair of live tracks from a 1970 Carnegie Hall show, came off of singles and EPs that, apart from the title song, were scarcely known in America, and it's all so solid that it needs no apology or explanation. Not only was Ian Anderson writing solid songs every time out,.

Produced by Ian Anderson & Terry Ellis. Album Living in the Past. Living in the Past Lyrics. Happy, and I'm smiling Walk a mile to drink your water You know I'd love to love you And above you there's no other We'll go walking out While others shout of war's disa(aa)ster Oh, we won't give in Let's go living in the past. Once I'd used to join in Every boy an' girl was my friend Now there's revolution But they don't know what they're fighting Let us close our eyes Outside their lives.

Living in the Past" is Jethro Tull's highest-charting single on the US Billboard and UK Singles charts. It first appeared as a 1969 single which had been recorded for their album Stand Up; however, it saw album release on Living in the Past in 1972. One of the most famous aspects of this song is its nonstandard time signature: It uses 5/4. This puts it in the category of "quintuple meter," where there's five beats per measure  . So "Living in the Past" is clearly poking fun at somebody, being about wishing to live in a peaceful time before a war. But is it directed at the fighters ("Now there's revolution, but they don't know what they're fighting"), or at the ones who chose to close their eyes to the fighting? We'll leave it to the jury.
