Deconstruction is the thirteenth studio album by Canadian musician Devin Townsend, and the third album in the Devin Townsend Project series. The album was released on June 20, 2011, simultaneously with the fourth Devin Townsend Project album Ghost, on Townsend's independent record label HevyDevy Records. The album features two drummers, Dirk Verbeuren and Ryan Van Poederooyen, as well as a number of guest vocalists.

Deconstruction was both created and has been profoundly influenced by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. Derrida, who coined the term deconstruction, argues that in Western culture, people tend to think and express their thoughts in terms of binary oppositions (white, black, masculine, feminine, cause /effect, conscious /unconscious, presence, absence, speech writing). Formalists ultimately make sense of the ambiguities they find in a given text, arguing that every ambiguity serves a definite, meaningful, and demonstrable literary function. Undecidability, by contrast, is never reduced, let alone mastered in deconsctruction.

If Dorothy is the deconstruction of desire then Sandy is the deconstruction of fantasy, particularly that of the Girl Next Door. If Dorothy occupies some weird middle ground on the Madonna-Whore continuum, then Sandy is all Madonna, a character who is the quintessence of suburban wholesomeness and represents the virtue to Dorothy’s vice, even though Sandy herself is hardly incurious. A film like Blue Velvet, which warps the feminine familiar in ways that upset and astonish, is not about sharing conclusive moral answers (or judgments) but about posing questions that upend conventional expectations in the most gloriously gonzo fashion imaginable, stringing us along and speaking obliquely to our deep-seated curiosities.

The Deconstruction is extremely an Eels album. It opens with a listless melody that’s stuck between classic rock stations ( Space Oddity and Pink Floyd’s Brain Damage ), as Everett huffs, The deconstruction has begun/Time for me to fall apart. The why, the how, and the what of this mission statement go unsaid, but it leaves little to the imagination for anyone who’s followed Eels to this point. In part this is a testament to just how much mileage Everett has gotten out of the mid-’90s archetype where a beard and ironic detachment are equivalent to intelligence. When given the slightest bit of scrutiny, The Deconstruction produces no eccentricity, pop smarts, orchestral creativity, or emotional revelation.

In popular usage the term has come to mean a critical dismantling of tradition and traditional modes of thought. William Shakespeare: Deconstruction. It owed its origin. econstruction in philosophy.

Feminism and deconstruction have influenced literary criticism by rethinking the terms of sexual difference, identity politics and ethics. Emphasising indeterminacy, the openness of interpretation and the importance of difference, their alliance has given rise to powerful interrogations of representations of women across a range of literary fields. Jacques Derrida begins this work by attempting to denaturalise the rhetoric of the female body

Deconstruction belongs to both history and theory. It is embedded in recent visual and academic culture, but it describes a strategy of critical form-making which is performed across a range of artefacts and practices, both historical and contemporary. Jacques Derrida introduced the concept of ‘deconstruction’ in his book Of Grammatology, published in France in 1967 and translated into English in 1976. Deconstruction’ became a banner for the advance guard in American literary studies in the 1970s and 80s, scandalising departments of English, French, and comparative literature. Derrida’s critique of the speech/writing opposition locates the concerns of deconstruction in the field of graphic design. We will return to the speech/writing problem in more detail later, but first, we will look at the life of deconstruction in recent design culture. The Design History of Deconstruction.
