His gently romantic Schumann is an interesting contrast with Bauer's heroic Brahms. There isn't a note in this set that's less than compelling, and the antique recordings, expertly transferred, don't sound bad at all. - -Leslie Gerber. I don't know what I was expecting when I bought this album, other than a document of an earlier day, but I was quickly put in my place. The Flonzaley are not merely one of the first string quartets to make a living playing music, they are amazing technicians and their artistry is impressive. These are notable performances.
Robert Schumann was a great enthusiast for Franz Schubert. He is reported as having 'cried all night' when, at the age of 18, he heard of Schubert's death. Schumann was a noted music critic, starting this career in 1831 in the "Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung" with an article on Chopin's Opus 2. In 1834 he started his own paper, the "Neue Zeitschrift für Musik".

The Three Romances for Oboe and Piano, Op. 94 (German: Drei Romanzen) is a composition by Robert Schumann, his only composition for oboe. It was composed in December 1849. The work consists of three short pieces in A-B-A form, and it was written during what was speculated to be one of Schumann's manic episodes. An average full performance lasts roughly 12 minutes.
