Wounded Rhymes is the second studio album by Swedish singer and songwriter Lykke Li. It was released on 25 February 2011 by LL Recordings and Atlantic Records. Written in Los Angeles and recorded in Stockholm, the album was produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, who also handled production for Li's debut album, Youth Novels (2008). Upon its release, Wounded Rhymes received acclaim from music critics, who viewed it as an improvement on its predecessor
Lykke Li intended for her sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, to be darker than her debut, Youth Novels. Li wrote the album in Los Angeles and recorded it in Stockholm, and Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, who also worked on her first LP, handled all production. Wounded Rhymes Q&A. Producers Björn Yttling, Lykke Li & Rick Nowels. Writers Björn Yttling, Lykke Li & Rick Nowels. Backing Vocals Anders Stenberg, Björn Yttling, Mariam Wallentin & 1 more.
Youth Novels is Lykke Li’s debut album, recorded at studios in Stockholm and New York City. Her production team included Lasse Martén and Peter Björn and John’s Björn Yttling. Li said in an interview from 2008 that she aimed to make the album intensely personal, like you’re reading someone’s diary. Youth Novels Q&A. Producers Björn Yttling, Lasse mårtenson & Lasse Mårtén. Writers Björn Yttling, Lykke Li & Nils-Erik Sandberg. Acoustic Guitar Björn Yttling & Johan Zachrisson. Backing Vocals Björn Yttling, Dylan Von Wagner, Lissy Trullie & 3 more.
Lykke Li is a different kind of Swedish wunderkind: an ingenious oddball. Her second album is a weird-pop gem - torchy love songs that nod to Sixties hits but are stretched into all kinds of shapes. Li dips into garage rock and wintry folk, but her guiding spirit seems to be Phil Spector, and she laces the music with booming percussion and girl-group-style romantic melodrama. While her 2008 breakout, Youth Novels, was quirky and coy, Wounded Rhymes is hungry, dark, dirty: I’m a prostitute, you gon’ get some, she chants over ominous drums on the subversive single Get Some.
Lykke Li's 2008 debut, "Youth Novels," was a strikingly intimate album filled with deceptively simple melodies and what sounded like shy confessions. Its seeming unassumingness is one of the set's charms, but the world noticed her quickly. During the past couple of years she's performed, recorded or done remixes with Kanye West, Drake, Q-Tip and even Kings of Leon. Much more aggressive and less introspective than "Youth Novels," the fittingly titled "Wounded Rhymes" features a diverse array of songs. Sonically it's a super-charged take on the girl-group sound, with thundering drums, multilayered vocals, heart-wrenching lyrics and loads of echo-all of which contrasts with her honeyed voice. The album's first single is the startlingly aggressive "Get Some," which features the controversial "I'm your prostitute" line.
Any honey flowing through Lykke Li's coy pop fully hardened on this dark and doomy follow-up to her 2008 debut album. The Swedish singer/songwriter traps the loss of youth and love in a warped wall of sound that echoes vintage girl-group pop on big, gushing torch songs like "Unrequited Love" and "Sadness Is a Blessing. But she comes into her own when harnessing her womanly power, with big, booming percussion on the tribal-esque thriller "Get Some. Wounded Rhymes Lykke Li.

Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson has grown up. Three years have passed since the Swedish chanteuse released her debut album Youth Novels under the alias of Lykke Li, the collection of songs itself an interweaving tale of virtuous love and fragility. But things have changed since a 21-year-old Li sang about her self-confessed shy shy shy disposition and being a dancer all along. Instead Wounded Rhymes, her long-awaited follow-up, makes way for a sonic documentary of her lost innocence and her admitted aftermath of a breakup
