Dirty Computer is the third studio album by American singer Janelle Monáe, released on April 27, 2018 by Wondaland Arts Society, Bad Boy Records and Atlantic Records. It is the follow-up to her studio albums The ArchAndroid (2010) and The Electric Lady (2013) and her first album not to be a part of Cindi Mayweather's Metropolis narrative

In Dirty Computer, Monáe is undercover passion on the run. She is bad. She is part of the rhythm nation. She no longer needs to ask if she’s a freak because she loves watching Mary. In Dirty Computer, she wants Mary Apple 53, played by Tessa Thompson, to take a bite. As for the musical component of Dirty Computer, Monáe has given us a pop record that feels gleefully youthful, perhaps even the album she wishes she could have had as a teen in Kansas City. The songwriting is precise if not always flawless. As an album, Dirty Computer is what happens when a prism is held to the blinding light of a free Janelle Monáe. Her status as an acolyte of Prince dovetails with her modern pop sensibilities uniquely, which is how we get a queer anthem like PYNK, and its video brimming with defiant black women, saddled with a chorus that could slide neatly into most Taylor Swift records.

Dirty Computer is Monáe’s gift to young girls, boys, men, women and non-binary people who are ostracised just for embracing their true selves; to black men and women. It’s a message of love and hope to anyone who fears what is different, but who has capacity to learn and know better. And it’s seemingly a gift to herself, as well. On Janelle Monáe's best album, the multi-talented entertainer is a vulnerable, genre-blending maestro of epic proportions. What separates Dirty Computer from her past works is that instead of performing under a futuristic robotic guise, this work is unabashedly Monáe's. Every bit of funk, synthpop, hard rock and trap in this album is seamlessly woven into her deeply personal, queer afrofuturist story.

Janelle Monáe ‎– Dirty Computer. Label: Atlantic ‎– 567348-2. Format: CD, Album, Misprint. Dirty Computer is not a bad album, I just find it the least interesting. The ArchAndroid album is a all in one classic, it’s the album that made me a fan of hers. I listened to Dirty Computer from beginning to end & it sounds nothing like: The Audition, Metropolis EP, ArchAndroid, Electric Lady or any of the music she’s done with OutKast, it lacks some of the original flavor she came in with that made me love her music. Janelle Monáe’s third studio album, Dirty Computer, isn’t just one of the most albums of 2018 - it’s also one of the most important bodies of work you’ll hear this year. Sex- and queer-positive anthems like Make Me Feel and I Like That marry clever lyrics with beats bearing the fingerprints of her late mentor Prince, and the multihyphenate artist has never sounded better. In short, Dirty Computer is pure magic. The record arrived in April, but it continues to be a force for positivity and inclusivity as she's taken it around the world on tour.

Dirty Computer is Janelle’s grown-ass symphony to God. 1. With, of course, another twist. Dirty Computer the album has multiple bangers, where previously Monáe had precisely one, Tightrope. She’s finding ways to use the fact that her funk’s never exactly funky to her advantage. As a rapper, for example, she’s much more the great speaker whom we saw at the Women’s March and introducing Kesha at the Grammys, for instance.

Janelle Monáe is the Sexually Free American Dream on ‘Dirty Computer’. Dirty Computer' is Monáe's definitive, crazy, could-be classic, album. Author: Donna-Claire Chesman. Janelle Monáe is power personified. The Kansas City-born, Atlanta-based ist has ascended to pop icon status while making several marks on the music landscape, including founding her own imprint, the Wondaland Arts Society. Since 2009, Monáe has been a force in music, raking in six GRAMMY nominations and enjoying critical acclaim, all without the pressure of putting sales or streaming numbers on the board.

This is a rerelease of the previous yellow vinyl with the same lenticular cover.
Cha
The best-sounding vinyl in my collection along with Sweetener from Ariana Grande.
Anicasalar
Is it a heavyweight pressing? I can't find any information on the weight.
Kinashand
Back on stock on Janelle Monae's website... if you want to avoid the crazy prices of some sellers...
Knights from Bernin
I ordered mine on the 26th of December 2018 and a few days later I got a notice that it was on back order. Has anyone gotten their late 2018 pressing?

Is it a heavyweight pressing? I can't find any information on the weight.

I ordered my copy earlier this month, it came yesterday

This has just been re-released in time for Christmas, head to http://www.jmonae.com/

Unbelievable sound quality. A real pearl in muddy waters of modern "heavyweight collector blah" vinyl with pressings that crack, pop, warp whatever. Looks like mastering was done very carefully to articulate each possible sound: bass is thick, voice is crystal clear, every note is heard. Even inner sleeves are anti-static - thanks for the care. 45 rpm dead quiet breathing with life record, recommended.

Wow, you are so right! That pressing really sounds so brilliant and the packaging really does pack a punch! My copy still contains the shrinkwrap but opened on the side.
lolike
I couldn't agree more, this is truly a phenomenal pressing! All of the previous Monáe pressings I own sound muddy and distorted
Burgas
Is this Netherlands version a 45 rpm or 33 rpm set?
Huston
45 RPM and it's gorgeous! Answer from happy owner :-)
Kulafyn
WOW! I am so excited about how wonderful this pressing it!! It brings every song to life in a way that no CD or MP3 ever could. The sound is HUGE, especially the bass which is clear and booming but not overwhelming. Every range of the sonic spectrum comes across with unbelievable clarity. What a fantastic album from Janelle Monáe! Every song is a keeper. A++++
Direbringer
How limited is this pressing? Great Album. Defo Album of the year.
Xava
Stunning album. In every way. A complete and utter masterpiece.
Binar
Amazing cover, great packaging, beautiful sound. WIN. Thanks for making it nice!

The lenticular cover is absolutely STUNNING in person. It is easily one of the most professional lenticular I've ever seen.
Anarahuginn
can´t wait for mine to arrive!!! :) superb album! one of my favorites this yr
Adorardana
Yes, this sounds freakin´great. Bass is HUGE but controlled. You can CRANK this Mutha

As a true fan of Janelle Monae, to me, this is her worst album. Dirty Computer is not a bad album, I just find it the least interesting. The ArchAndroid album is a “all in one” classic, it’s the album that made me a fan of hers. I listened to Dirty Computer from beginning to end & it sounds nothing like: The Audition, Metropolis EP, ArchAndroid, Electric Lady or any of the music she’s done with OutKast, it lacks some of the original flavor she came in with that made me love her music.
Anaragelv
An extraordinary pressing! Every song is crisp and clear, and this pressing makes the case for why a properly mastered record should be pressed as 45rpm instead of 33rpm
Marelyne
Don't care if vinyls aren't yellow or if it has a fancy lenticular cover, but man, PYNK vinyls are worth all the fanciness in the world!!! ????????????
Chankane
I agree!! the “PYNK” matches the album’s aesthetic the most.
Pettalo
This pressing sounds great! No issues whatsoever. Records came packaged in poly lined inner sleeves. Very nice artwork too. This is how new vinyl releases should be done.
Grokinos
My copy of the limited edition LP plays with minor cracking during the first 10 seconds and last 30 seconds of each side. No warping on either disk. The LP seems loud however being 45 RPM maybe should be expected. I’d be curious to know if anyone’s measured the LP (or the CD for that matter). Packaging arrived in perfect condition; 3D cover is neat. I quite liked the album when it was released and play it (streaming) often. I find the vinyl to be more engaging, so am happy with it.
Innadril
Preordered mine and Disc 1 came with a noticeable warp on the edge, probably from the inner sleeve bunching up. Disc 2 had a small warp too but not as bad. Both play without issue thankfully.
Eayaroler
What's happened to the music? Janelle used to have such a great band backing her, this is just horrendous. I was a big fan of her previous albums and saw her live twice, but I find this unlistenable.
Halloween
Thanks for all the help, folks! I ordered the yellow pressing here: http://store.jmonae.com/music-1/vinyl/dirty-computer-color-vinyl-2xlp-w-lenticular-cover.html. Now there's something to look forward to! (Thanks, Teetje, for posting the link.)
POFOD
I`ve just ordered it too. Looking forward to it but pretty strange that they`ve pushed the vinyl-release back for such a long period. nethertheless; finally an official pressing, not that urban outfittters crap ;-)
