Horrendous - Anareta album download
While 'Anareta' is an extremely competent album, there are some glaring flaws that will make the more discerning listener pause for concern. Even without pedantic nitpicking, "The Solipsist (Mirrors Gaze)" is a turgid mess of a song that accomplishes nothing during the excruciating six minute run, leaving the album to end with what could be charitably described as a wet fart. I do recall listening to a track or two of that and enjoying it, and I said to myself I'd give the full album a listen eventually.
Unlike a lot of the metal community, I didn’t come to Anareta as a particularly rabid fan of Horrendous – I had heard plenty of praise for its predecessor, Ecdysis, but I hadn’t gotten around to playing the CD copy I got on sale from 20 Buck Spin earlier this summer. Thus, I came to Anareta with an open mind. It’s also immediately clear that this album is much more skewed toward a sort of melodic, progressive style of death metal, though much more in line with the very beginnings of that movement with mid-period Death, rather than what each of those movements has become.
Horrendous have become masters of pacing and dynamics, instinctively knowing when to let the album and audience breathe. On their earliest albums, both bands wrestled with the past, rendering death metal anew as competent revivalists. But in 2015, they have both stretched those traditions, filling accepted frameworks with unlikely elements.
Horrendous is an American death metal band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band has released four full-length studio albums to date, the most recent being Idol, released through Season of Mist on September 28, 2018. The band was formed by Damian Herring and brothers Matt and Jamie Knox in 2009, with bassist Alex Kulick joining the band in 2016.
My experience with this album was that of entering a dark labyrinth composed of twisted corridors, making one lose his sense of direction. After listening to the record for the first time, I barely remembered anything I listened, but I was left with a burning intrigue, anxious to get lost in the maze once again. After repeated listens, I began to sketch a mental map of the contrived puzzle, starting to remember it's contorted riffs, and making sense of what I was hearing. Anareta is an album that rewards attentive listening.

Horrendous have outdone themselves again and smashed out another brilliant album to enter the realms of the death metal elite. Anareta is a brutishly graceful death metal behemoth dressed in old school threads, that is every bit as compelling as its glorious predecessor. Now if you’ll excuse me, after all this gushing I need to take a shower. Get this fucking album. com/Horrendous Releases Worldwide: October 30, 2015.
