Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo is a 1944 American war film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is based on the historic Doolittle Raid, America's first retaliatory air strike against Japan four months after the December 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Mervyn LeRoy directed Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and Sam Zimbalist produced the film. The screenplay by Dalton Trumbo was based on the 1943 book of the same name, by Captain Ted W. Lawson, a pilot on the raid.

Pere Ubu's debut single (their first four records were singles on their own "Hearthan" label) was "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" (inspired by the "Doolittle Raid" and named after a film depicting the raid), backed with "Heart of Darkness"; followed by "Final Solution" in 1976. Other recordings of the 1970s. Street Waves" b/w "My Dark Ages (I Don't.

Pere Ubu. 30 Seconds Over Tokyo. Composed by Peter Laughner, David Thomas. Before the Ramones recorded their debut album, before the Sex Pistols were a glimmer in Malcolm McLaren's eye, and before fellow Ohioans Devo helped usher in the age of synth pop and MTV, Pere Ubu had already formed their own label and released the seminal art punk single "30 Seconds Over Tokyo.

I remember the Hearthan 45 being available in the UK around 1977/8 as were the other early Ubu 45s but never saw the pic sleeve at the time. Street Waves had a simple white sleeve with the title printed on it. The other 3 45s had plain white sleeves. With '30 seconds' I reckon not all 1975 pressings had the pic sleeve. Anyway, it's an astonishing record (A & B sides) even today.

As it states in the notes - this is the silver/black label repress that came w/o pic sleeve. As you say - they were common in the Uk in the late '70s but the pic sleeve / red & white label originals were harder to find.I interviewed D Thomas about 20 years ago and he told me that, back at his mother's house, he's got hundreds of original Ubu singles under the bed. He's not the least bit interested in them though. He hates vinyl and was quite scornful of my interest and indeed my own collection of Ubu wax. Not an easy man to talk in my experience.

Absolute first pressings did NOT come with a picture sleeve as the records were ready weeks before the sleeve. There was an offer to send you the sleeve when it came in, but I don't know if the band followed through on this offer. I wasn't sent one. As this was only available locally in Ohio and through mail order, there were mentions of the sleeve discrepincy in certain letter columns at the time. After the first month, there were first pressing records sent with sleeves.

The deadwax for this one (with sleeve) is the exact same as the listing without the sleeve. As for the other comment What I mean by the OnLy way to own this is with the sleeve is any collector would only want to own this as the full package. Sleeve and record. I have owned it with and without the sleeve back when it came out. The record is the same. The sleeve was shipped weeks after for me. And yes... I am an elitist

Is there a way that you KNOW the band followed through with mailing out the sleeves(envelope/letter from the band at the time)? There's no doubt that first pressings exist with sleeves. I don't really know what it means that the "ONLY way to own this is with a sleeve" It sounds like you're saying that the few people who bought this from the band solely (on the fact that it sounded interesting) before anyone else are somehow less than because the band never sent them a sleeve. I got a copy with a sleeve as soon as I figured out they weren't gonna mail me one. I would say the ONLY way to own this is by having BOTH versions.....No, wait, that sounds elitist.

The band DID follow through with the sleeve so this is a 1st pressing of the vinyl with the picture sleeve that was shipped separately. The ONLY way to own this is with the sleeve! No collection should be without it.
