Nothing is the fourth album by Swedish metal band Meshuggah, originally released in 2002. The album entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 165, slightly higher than the band's following effort, Catch Thirtythree. A last-minute decision to join 2002's Ozzfest tour forced the band to mix the album in two days and to master it in one. As a result, the album had its guitars and drums re-recorded for a remastered re-release in 2006.

None (Bone Colored Vinyl) Nuclear Blast 2018. The music is very different from the music on the debut album Contradictions Collape as Meshuggah have made their music more simple and groove oriented. A sort of technical Pantera you could say. At the time of its release this was called Groove thrash.

Meshuggah have always been a rather electic band. Through six albums they have strived to create a sound that is unique and beautiful in its brutality. Yet while its uniqueness is unquestionable, its repetitiveness and ability to cross genre boundaries has always been something that is put into question.

Experimental Metal, Sweden (1994 - Nuclear Blast) Learn more.

None is where Meshuggah give us the first taste of the experimental and groove-heavy metal that they base their whole career and signature sound around. This isn't a derivative thrash piece like Contradictions Collapse. In fact, this establishes the sound of Destroy Erase Improve in a big change from their older thrash sound. It even stands apart from Destroy Erase Improve in this regard since this EP is even djentier than that album. That alone makes this EP unique, especially because Meshuggah would end up inspiring so many imitators with this, but this EP still stands above a lot of what came when djenting became a trend.

MESHUGGAH accepted, and the race was on to complete the new album. After pushing the limits of heaviness with Chaosphere, there was only one place left to go: even heavier. Proudly cold and emotionless, this concept album without a concept with seemingly ess vocals had the feel of a philosophical journey through life and death, not excluding the soul-gutting ponderations. Again, the praise was incessant.
