In the Summertime is a 1970 album recorded by Mungo Jerry. It contains their biggest hit, "In the Summertime" and its B-side, "Mighty Man". Also included are the country hits, "San Francisco Bay Blues", recorded in 1954 by Jesse Fuller, Arthur Gunter's "Baby Let's Play House", also from 1954 and Woody Guthrie's "Dust Pneumonia Blues" which also appeared on the B-side of "In the Summertime".

Love Time Out? Get the best of your city in our newsletter, as often as you like. Delivered by ’90s hip-hop pop heroes Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, this dreamy ode to the fairest of the seasons checks off pretty much every summer essential, from shooting hoops on the street, to dancing at a barbecue and reminiscing about the first person you kissed-but the real joy of Summertime is that it’s so easy. Summertime is a gorgeous lie. As written by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward for the seminal 1935 American folk opera Porgy & Bess, it’s a lullaby sung by a poor young mother in the slums of South Carolina, assuring her child of a tranquil world that is nowhere around them. Fish don’t jump on Catfish Row, and the living sure as hell isn’t easy.

For there are you, sweet lollipop Here am I with such a lot to say, hey, hey Just to walk with you along the Milky Way To caress you through the nighttime, bring you flowers every day Oh, babe, what would you say? 'Cause oh, baby, I know I know I could be so in love with you And I know that I could make you love me, too And if I could only hear you say you do, oo-oo-oo-oo But, anyway, what would you say? Yes, oh, baby, I know I know I could be so in love with you And I know that I could make you love me, too And if I could only hear you say you do, oo-oo-oo-oo But, anyway, what would you.
