AKA: Richard Penniman and Richard Wayne Penniman. About Little Richard. The architect of Rock and Roll. Popular Little Richard songs. Keep A Knockin': The Best of Little Richard. The Boy Can't Help It. 1992.
Richard Wayne Penniman (born December 5, 1932), known as Little Richard, is an American musician, singer and songwriter. An influential figure in popular music and culture for seven decades, Penniman's most celebrated work dates from the mid-1950s, when his dynamic music and charismatic showmanship laid the foundation for rock and roll. His music also played a key role in the formation of other popular music genres, including soul and funk.
Keep a Knockin'' (1957). The drums drive the beat here, pounding away as they knock, knock, knock. But it's Richard's playful vocal and pounding piano that let you know who's really in charge. Many Little Richard songs bared New Orleans' influence on his music, but 'Keep a Knockin'' comes the closest to capturing the sound - no surprise since it was written as an answer to "I Hear You Knocking," a Smiley Lewis hit penned by Big Easy great Dave Bartholomew. 4. 'The Girl Can't Help It' (1957)
