Featured on the albums were tracks from 1966 to 1984 that included drum breaks. The albums found high popularity with hip hop producers, with the release of a new volume in the series usually leading to many various hip hop records featuring samples of the breaks.
Street Beat offers all 174 tracks from the crucial Ultimate Breaks & Beats- originally released in 25 volumes between 1986-91- on two mp3 CDs, a collection that serves as a roadmap for the history and evolution of sample-era hip-hop. An Afrika Bambaataa-unearthed version of "Sing a Simple Song" by the Filipino funk band Please showed up on Volume 6, but it didn't catch on since the massive drum break in the Sly & the Family Stone original was already so popular. Lucy Hawkins' gutsy "Gotta Get Out of Here" suffered not just from its overtly disco unfashionability but from the fact that it appeared on 1987's Volume 11, overshadowed by omnipresent breaks like the Honeydrippers' "Impeach the President" and the Headhunters' "God Made Me Funky".
StudioSnap - Simplicity (Breaks mix). What is Album Only? Some artists and labels prefer certain tracks to be purchased as part of an entire release.
