The Alarm are a Welsh alternative rock/new wave band that formed in Rhyl, Wales, in 1981. By opening for acts such as U2 and Bob Dylan, they became a popular alternative rock band of the 1980s. They retain a loyal following.

The Alarm have announced their return by releasing a video for their new single and announcing details of their upcoming studio album. The album is titled ∑ (Sigma) and it’ll launch on June 28 – a year and a day after the release of their last record Equals.
Mike has written a new Alarm album – Blood Red, a very personal set of songs created over the course of Jules’ treatment. A UK and US tour is one of their biggest yet, and the pair are undertaking a huge challenge when they walk 130 miles across North Wales for the Awyr Las Charity in June, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for the cancer units that have saved both their lives. I’m now living with the fear because I know I can cope with anything. Mike and Jules: While We Still Have Time will be broadcast on BBC One Wales on Monday, May 22, at 9pm, and the programme will be immediately followed on BBC Two Wales at 10pm with Mike Peters: The Alarm Live – highlights from this year’s 25th Anniversary of The Gathering.
The album was recorded live on Friday December 3 and Saturday December 4, 1999 at BBC Wales Studio One, Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales. The BBC studios have been chosen because they held a special place in the history of Mike Peters and The Alarm. Studio One was the location for the recording of 'A New South Wales', which originally took place on 26 June 1989. 10 years on, and Mike Peters enrolled the help of The Morriston Orpheus Choir, who sang on the original to take part in a special re-recording of 'A New South Wales', which featured new lyrics by Peters as performed exclusively at the opening of The Welsh Assembly 'Voices Of A Nation' concert.
Mike Peters will tease the upcoming album by The Alarm with a special 8-song EP to be released for Record Store Day that will include three songs off the new record that’s expected this summer as well as a collaboration with Billy Duffy of The Cult on the song Blood Red Viral Black.
The Killers played at Cardiff Castle in Wales last night ahead of their headlining set at Glastonbury today. And during the show, they paid tribute to Welsh rock heroes the Alarm, covering their 1987 song Rain In The Summertime. The Alarm frontman Mike Peters happened to be in the crowd to see it, and he was just as surprised as anybody. Somebody had stopped me a for a photo when they started playing ‘Rain In The Summertime,’ so I didn’t quite clock it at first then everybody was looking at me and cheering, then they all joined in singing, Peters told Wales Online.
Mike Peters recently underwent his third course of chemotherapy after being told of the illness in December 2005, ten years after he was originally diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; the Rhyl musician is back on the road with his band, now billed as The Alarm MMVI; the new album, "Under Attack", which was released in February 2006 already contains a . top. 30 hit single: "Superchannel".
