Mae Moore (born in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Her music is a blend of pop, folk and jazz. Her most successful album, 1992's Bohemia, was an international hit, although her other albums have been successful mainly in Canada. Moore studied art before moving to British Columbia to pursue music. Her first hit came by co-writing the song "Heaven in Your Eyes" (with John Dexter), which would later be recorded by Loverboy for the Top Gun soundtrack in 1986.

All the appearances wouldn't mean much if Moore's own abilities weren't up to snuff, but Bohemia is an enjoyable, coolly fascinating album worthy of its own reputation rather than any Church or Go-Betweens family-tree ties or the like. Whether it's the low-key rap on the verses of the title track or on the break of "Because of Love" or her wonderful backing vocal overdubs on the brilliant "Shape of Love," Moore readily stands on her own two feet.
Mae Moore may be the most undersold, underhyped female vocalist in the last 10 years. Her music is modern folk, unassuming, and she has outstanding lyrics and a great voice. She rates in my top 10 and I wish she would go on tour in the midwest so I could she her (hint, if you read these things) in person. Mae Moore's music is incredibly uplifting, despite all of the tragedy this young woman has encountered in her life. She has a lovely, unique voice and songs that make you think. I can't think of anyone to compare her to since she has her own sound.

Album: It's a Funny World, 2005. Official music video for the 1992 single "Bohemia". Understandably, there will be those quick to include Mae Moore alongside such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, and Diana Krall. That was true in the beginning of her career, and is true today.
